Here at Jeremiah’s we stress the importance of exercise and fun in recovery. We offer many opportunities for men to find alternative activities such as Bro-ga (Yoga), hiking, and team sports to help them heal and grow in their new recovery lifestyle.

“The WALK for the Homeless is a long standing community event which unites people from all sectors to help those at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. We do this by raising public awareness as well as raising much needed funds to move those in need beyond homelessness.

The WALK brings together adults, children, faith groups, students, and local businesses to help bring stability to families, individuals, and neighborhoods across Worcester County.

36th Annual Meeting

This week, Jeremiah’s Inn held our 36th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors. Hosted in the lovely Grace Conference Room at Clark University, it was an informative and educational evening for all in attendance.

Guests enjoyed presentations by our directorial staff: Janelle Wilson, Executive Director, Jeff Busby, Clinical Director, Dick Quinlan, Director of Operations, and Tracy Paul, Nutrition Center Coordinator, on all the changes and improvements at the Inn in 2017, as well as what’s next for Jeremiah’s in 2018. Our positive financial position was presented by our board Treasurer, Eugene Bouchard, and the Report of the Nominating Committee was presented by our board Vice President, Joseph Stiso.

We honored four recipients this year with our Golden Friends of Jeremiah’s awards: Community Harvest Project Inc., Doherty Memorial High School Food Drive Club, Pam’s Porch 5, and Rachel’s Table. We also heard inspiring stories from both a current resident and an alumni of our Social Model Recovery Program.

We thank everyone who came to support our Annual Meeting, as well as all of our volunteers, donors, board members and staff for all their incredible contributions to the Inn, and we look forward to the exciting changes ahead!

Ken’s Dressing BBQ Night was a HUGE Success!

On Saturday, we had the staff of Ken’s Foods Inc of Marlborough down to the Inn, cooking and serving a delicious BBQ dinner, all made with their famously delicious Ken’s Steak House Dressings!

The residents enjoyed a meal of Caesar salad made with Ken’s Tableside Caesar Dressing, BBQ chicken bathed in tangy Sweet Baby Rays Original BBQ Sauce, fresh garlic bread, french fries
served with Ken’s Buttermilk Ranch and Sweet Baby Ray’s dipping sauces, coleslaw tossed with Ken’s Magic Blend Coleslaw dressing, & Mint Chocolate Chip Mini Cakes.

They even donated some of their delicious dressings to us for distribution!

Wow!

Everyone had a wonderful time, residents and staff alike. Such an incredibly generous donation by these employees, and an unforgettable dinner for our residents!

We are continuously thankful for and humbled by the community support we receive! We couldn’t do the important work we do, battling against food insecurity and the substance use epidemic, without the generosity of community members just like the staff of Ken’s!

St. Joseph’s/St. Pius X of Leicester

St. Joseph’s/St. Pius X of Leicester

This past Sunday, we had a great group of kids down to the Inn from St. Joseph-St. Pius X in Leicester. As part of our Evening Meal Program, they donated, cooked and served a delicious meal of parmigian crusted chicken thighs, baked potatoes with fixings, green bean casserole & chocolate chip cookies to the 29 residents of Jeremiah’s Inn. They also donated 30+ beautiful blessings boxes, one for each of our guys, filled with soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, deodorant, socks, and more.
These kids, made up of 6 ninth graders, along with their chaperones, demonstrated a great act of kindness in service to our residents, they dedicated their Sunday to coming down and spending time with the residents and serving us a delicious meal, and we are so thankful and humbled by their generous giving.
We look forward to having them down again soon!

Pam’s Porch 5!

Pam’s Porch 5!

Last night, we had the pleasure of having the Pam’s Porch 5 Community down to prepare and serve for our Evening Meal Program, and what a success it was! And so much food!! There was Ooey-Gooey mac & cheese, regular mac & cheese, spiral ham, turkey, lasagna, ‘Lazy Man’ lasagna, 8 rotisserie chickens, and ‘Pa’s chicken’ for the main courses. Garlic bread, two loaves of home made white bread, garden salad, spaghetti salad, & butternut squash made up the sides. Desserts included Pineapple upside down cake, frosted brownies, strawberry filled cupcakes, brownies, assorted home made cookies, lemon cake, Reese’s Peanut-butter cookies, Kentucky Bars, cream puffs, and candy!

Children passed out name tags for residents and cooks, helped set up, and drew names for a baseball cap giveaway.

This was a truly special evening for residents, staff and cooks alike. Put on in remembrance of Pam’s brother, David, who tragically passed away, this was a heartwarming tribute to him, along with all others we’ve lost to the disease of addiction. Pam spoke with the residents about her brother, and her loss, and spoke to the courage of our residents to continue to fight for their recovery.

Our hearts are so full of gratitude for the generosity of this group of people, who came here as strangers and left here as friends.

Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting several volunteers from Beta Theta Pi – Worcester Polytechnic Institute!
15 young men helped out with cleaning our kitchen and picking up trash outside.
We are thankful for this generous support and look forward to working with these great volunteers in the future!

Doherty Memorial High School ‘Food Drive Club’ Students Delivered!

Each year, students and faculty from Doherty Memorial High School come by with a few pickup trucks or vans PACKED with food donations – all organized by the students of the ‘Food Drive Club.’
These incredible kids come together, sometimes meeting weekly from the beginning of the school year, to plan out and execute a massive, school-wide food drive to benefit the Jeremiah’s Inn Nutrition Center-Food Pantry. This year, they were able to deliver 6,252 non-perishable food items, as well as paper goods and toiletries.
We are humbled by the willingness of these amazing kids to go above and beyond, making a real difference in their community. They dedicate their free time, including some nights and weekends, organizing events that boost the donations to this drive. Because of these students and their tireless efforts, we now have about an additional 6,000lbs. of food to distribute to the clients of our Nutrition Center, 2/3 of whom are children themselves.
We cannot thank the students and faculty of Doherty enough for their generous service to the Inn!
