Richard ‘Richy’ Direnzo

Richard Direnzo Jr. (1968 – 2016)

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Richy Direnzo. Richy was most recently a member of the Jeremiah’s Inn team as the house manager. He had an infectious smile and laughter that could light up a room. He was a dedicated employee and friend.

While we are deeply saddened at the news of his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is at rest, and that his family and friends now have some closure after several months of searching for him.

Our deepest condolences to the entire Direnzo family, and the countless hearts Richy touched along his journey.

Rest in peace, Richy

“We make a living by what we get,
But we make a life by what we give.”
-Winston Churchill

Hi everyone! We want to take a minute to thank everyone who has made a contribution — of any kind — this year to help us further our mission and to help make the lives of those we serve a little easier. You helped make the holidays happy for the people we serve in our residential program and Nutrition Center.

Our fiscal year ends in three days. We’d really like to end the year on a high note, with money in the bank so we can start off 2017 in a strong fiscal position. We ask that you consider making a donation at this time so we can continue to grow and strengthen our programs in the coming year.

If you are interested in making a donation, click here!

Have a safe and happy New Year’s!

Greater Worcester Community Foundation Awards Jeremiah’s Inn with a Grant for $7,500.00

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation recently awarded Jeremiah’s Inn with a grant in the amount of $7,500.00 to aide the Nutrition Center. Each year, Jeremiah’s Inn Nutrition Center feeds 12,000 families in need. We could not do this work without grants like these. We are honored and grateful to be recipients of this generous grant! Thank you!

Resident Christmas Program

Resident Christmas Program

“For it is in giving, that we receive” -Francis of Assisi

Christmas is fast approaching, and while this is usually a happy time of year for many, enjoying time with family and friends, often times this is not the case for our residents. This time of year can be particularly hard for our residents as they struggle with feelings of loneliness, hopelessness and feeling as though they’ve let down their family and community. Often times our residents feel shame in not having the financial means to provide their children with a gift for Christmas. Many times these men have little to no ties left with family and friends, and end up spending the holiday here at the Inn with the other residents.

We at Jeremiah’s feel that everyone deserves a little joy, especially at the Christmas season, and we recognize how hard each one of our residents work, on a daily basis, towards recovery from active addiction. These men are making great strides every day towards being responsible, productive members of society, and for these reasons, we work just as hard to provide them with a little bit of joy during the holiday season by providing the residents with a few basic items many of us take for granted, as well as gifts for the residents children.

But we can not do this alone.

Each year, we count on the support of the community to help us achieve this goal. Typically we are flooded with donations from the end of November through Christmas. Unfortunately so far this year, we have not had as much luck. This is why we have developed our ‘Adopt-a-resident’ program, where members from the community that wish to participate can ‘adopt’ a resident and/or resident’s child to donate Christmas gifts to. We have 29 residents in need of basic items, such as socks, t-shirts, underwear, winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, work boots. We also have about 20 children that would love receiving a gift from their father for Christmas.
Please email me as soon as possible if this is a program you would like to participate in. We would gratefully accept any assistance in helping us to achieve the goal of each one of our residents and their children having a happy Christmas.
Warmest Regards,
Melissa A. Waddell

Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful…. and Jeremiah’s is in Need of Some Winter Gear

Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful…. and Jeremiah’s is in Need of Some Winter Gear

Do you have new or gently used mens winter coats, boots, hats or gloves?

Many of our residents come to us with very little, including these essential items. Jeremiah’s Inn will gratefully accept any hats, coats, boots and gloves donations, so that our residents can continue their job searches, 12 step meetings, and other activities.

We will also accept women’s and children’s winter wear items to provide to our nutrition center clients in need.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you, our community of donors, for your generous support!

Make Way for Changes at the Inn!

Make Way for Changes at the Inn!

Please pardon our appearance! Jeremiah’s Inn is getting a makeover. Thanks to the generosity of the community, we are able to make some major office renovations. These renovations will help us to streamline our services and provide the best quality care we can to our residents and nutrition center clients. We are currently refurbishing the Nutrition Center, Case Management offices, and Executive offices. We will have a new phone system, new security, new office furniture, flooring and a fresh coat of paint when all is said and done. Our Nutrition Center will be open again on Monday, November 21st, at noon.
